I was talking with Rozella Rowland after the 10:45 worship experience yesterday, where she drew my attention to a single stalk of wheat growing in one of the rock beds at the church. Obviously, this was a terribly difficult place for this stalk of wheat to be growing...it was surrounded by rocks for heaven's sake! Yet, there it was, having not only managed to root, but seemingly to thrive. It was rather amazing, actually. I had not noticed this stalk of wheat, and if I had, I would likely have pulled it without thinking twice-- it was, for all practical purposes, out of place. Rozella, however, found a deeper meaning in this stalk of wheat. She pointed out that it was the perfect example of a healthy relationship with God through Jesus Christ: If we are deeply rooted in him, then no matter what situation we find ourselves in, we will not only survive, but thrive. Rozella is right; that is a huge lesson drawn from a very small, almost unnoticeable 'accident' of nature, one that I hope we will all learn from. What is it that you are going through right now? Feel like you're planted in the rocks? If that's where you are...being overcome by it isn't going to get you very far. Instead, make sure your roots are growing deep in Jesus and THRIVE in him.
My thanks to Rozella for pointing out that stalk of wheat and what she saw in it. Let's take from Rozella's example and train ourselves to look at the 'lessons' God has for us right before our eyes each and every day.

Hey. You know, i can't help but wonder, maybe that stalk of wheat in the rocks wasn't an "accident of nature". Think about it, what would you have blogged about if that wheat hadn't been there? What would have occupied your fasination...surely not anything as intersting as that stalk of wheat. ;)
I really am glad you have this blog...its an awesome way to start my week. Thank You.
Bethanie
You are right, Beth. Whether God 'causes' coincidences or not, he still works through them, eh?
