a little Sunday craziness...

Here is something I came across in another blog I follow...

In 1896, the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church condemned bicycling on Sunday for enticing parishioners away from church and violating the Fourth Commandment...

"The Sabbath, the Lord’s Day of rest for the body, and of worship for the soul, is especially threatened by many unscriptural innovations… Sunday bicycle pleasure riding…"
Isn't that just super-ridiculous? And that was just 100 years ago! This is so much more than a tidbit of history. It speaks volumes about how the church can sometimes get threatened by the innovations around us, instead of looking for ways to leverage the 'new' as a way to connect with people and help introduce them to Jesus. Instead of being threatened, perhaps we should look for opportunities!

What ways have you seen or experienced the church reacting in similar ways?
