I'm a worship leader, so obviously I must believe that the practice and art of worship is pretty important. True. In fact, I would go so far as to say that I have viewed Sunday morning worship as the most important time of the week. We meet with God. We hear from God. We learn more about God. We express our thanks to God. These are great things! They are privileges... all of them!
My view's been changing some recently though. It's not that I no longer view worship as important. I do. Trust me on that. It's just that I've been wondering if Sunday morning worship is the most important time in God's week? Hmmm. You know what makes me ask that? Well, I'll let you help me answer that. Take the new testament, for example. What gets more time and space in terms of instructions and wisdom for living? Sunday worship or our daily lives where we find ourselves working, playing, connecting, etc. You got it! Our day-to-day living!
So what should I do with this information? Change my priorities? No, I don't think so. Sunday worship is our time to express our thanks to God for his salvation as a community of believers. It's a time where he meets with us and we can hear from his word and work/serve together to fulfill his purposes for us. It's good. It's important. It's right.
But, it's ultimately what we do with the remainder of our week that shows whether what happens on Sunday morning actually means anything to us, actually makes any type of difference in God's world.
So, at the end of the day it's actually a both/and, not an either/or. Sunday mornings and the rest of the week. They go hand in hand. Slacking off in one is like cutting off one of your hands. Your gonna be hurtin' without it and weaker as a believer for it.
So, which is your weak point? Sunday mornings? The rest of the week? Both?
