Followers of Jesus are to draw attention to him ultimately, not themselves. This may very well be one of the most difficult lessons for us to learn as followers. In fact, the very word "follower" means to...well...follow. And in order to follow someone, you have to be continually looking at/to that person to see where he is going. It also means something else: there are people following you, too. So, where are you leading them? If you are following Jesus intently, then you are likely leading people toward him, too. But if you are not following him very well... then you are very likely leading others away from him, too. Either way, it's not about you, but very much about him.
So, here's something for you to think about...
Where are you leading others? Who are they going to be following if they are following you, if they are looking to you to lead them in the way in which they should go? Are they ultimately going to be following Jesus because that's who you are following? Or will they simply be following you for no other reason than you are making life about you and not Jesus?
You are leading people around you, unless you live alone in a cave. So, let's be intentional about who we are following so that we lead others down the right path, too.
